October 4th – 11th, 2024
(Maximum group size 7 persons)

DAY 1  |  FLORENCE 2 NIGHTS  • Our Tuscany adventure starts this afternoon in Florence. We enjoy a wonderful tour of the city, where we learn and experience all about Michelangelo and his daily life. We visit the Accademia to see “The David” up close and personal, then enjoy a true Tuscan dinner.
Dinner

DAY 2  |  FLORENCE   •  This morning we meet our guide for a wonderful food tour of Florence. We visit markets, artisan bakers, gelato and chocolate makers – all in shops chosen for their historic & culinary importance. We will taste breads, cheeses, salumi, crostini, sweets, balsamic vinegars, olive oils, wine and seasonal specialties. You will have the afternoon and evening free to shop or explore more sites of Florence. I am happy to give you suggestions.
Breakfast and Lunch

DAY 3  |  CHIANTI 5 NIGHTS   •  This morning we head deeper into Tuscany with our first stop in the small walled medieval hill town of San Gimignano, not technically in Chianti but a very important hill town not to be missed. We discover this charming hill town’s many ceramic shops and the best gelato shop in all of Tuscany! You have time to explore, perhaps climbing its tallest tower for the most stupendous views, and shop for the finest leather bags. Afterwards, we visit an organic winery for a tasting then drive to the region of Chianti, stopping for a stroll in my favorite town, Castellina in Chianti.
Breakfast and Dinner

DAY 4  |  CHIANTI •  We enjoy a fabulous cooking class this morning. We learn to make pasta, as part of a perfect Tuscan meal, then after all our hard (and fun) work, we sit down and enjoy it with some delicious wine and great conversations! This afternoon we explore the charming little town of Radda in Chianti.
Breakfast and Lunch

DAY 5  |  CHIANTI/GAIOLE IN CHIANTI  •  This morning we tour a monastery that dates back more than a thousand years and learn how the monks who lived here founded the abbey and were the first to start planting vineyards in the upper Chianti region. Our tour includes a wine tasting and visits to the ancient cellars and garden. After lunch we visit a fabulous castle with a surprise room you won’t believe!
Breakfast and Lunch

DAY 6  |  CHIANTI/SIENA •  Today we visit Siena! We enjoy a fascinating tour of this medieval town and see all the sights. We’ll also enjoy a drink at a café along Il Campo, one of the loveliest piazzas in all of Italy! We also stop along the way to see the walled town of Monteriggioni (one of my favorite places)!
Breakfast

DAY 7  |  CHIANTI/MONTEPULCIANO/PIENZA  •  Our last full day takes us to the Val d’Orcia. The Val d’Orcia is a beautiful valley that has been recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 2004. This region is noted for its impressive views as well as its high-quality local products such as its wine, cheese, olive oil, saffron, mushrooms, chestnuts, truffles and many other specialties. We will visit the wonderful towns of Montepulciano and Pienza and stop for lunch at a local farm.

Required Trip Insurance
Please note that trip insurance is required to join us on a Ciao Darcy trip. Trip cancellation insurance will protect all deposits and payments for land and air costs if you are required to cancel your tour. We recommend www.travelguard.com

Minimum Travelers
Minimum Travelers: We only run trips with 4 or more guests. If a trip has fewer attendees at 45 days before the trip dates, we will cancel the trip. However, if this were to happen, we can give you the option of a private tour with a surcharge applied.

Accommodations
We have partnered with boutique hotels that meet the Ciao Darcy standards of service.

Room Options

Double Occupancy: Double occupancy pricing is the price for (1) person to stay in a shared (i.e. double) room. In other words, each person staying in that room will pay the posted double occupancy rate. If you’re a couple or friends traveling together, please know that you’ll each pay the double occupancy rate.

Single Occupancy: Need some alone time? We hear you. That’s why we offer single occupancy rooms. The single occupancy rate is what you will pay to have the room all to yourself.

Roommates
If you do not have a travel partner, you can purchase single occupancy room and have it all to yourself! We do not pair up trip attendees because we find there is not enough privacy in the rooms to allow strangers to room together.

Please note: Many cities in Italy and France have recently implemented tourism taxes on hotel stays in order to “to ensure the quality of tourist, cultural and environmental services in addition to the efficiency of public transports.” We are unable to include these taxes in the tour price as the majority of hotels require the tax to be paid in cash upon check- out. The tax is usually 1 euro per hotel star per person per night. (A four star hotel will usually be four euro per person per night).
